Astana hosts preparatory meeting for COP29 in Baku
In a collaborative effort to address topical environmental concerns, Kazakhstan’s Astana has hosted a pivotal meeting in preparation for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change slated to convene in Baku this November.
The gathering brought together key stakeholders from various ministries, national companies, and the business community to strategize on impactful initiatives ahead of the upcoming summit, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
With a total of 140 participants, both online and offline, the meeting served as a platform for constructive dialogue and exchange of ideas.
Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Energy Ilyas Bakytzhan provided insights into the ongoing efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Energy to advance low-carbon energy development, mitigate methane emissions, and facilitate a just energy transition.
Highlighting Kazakhstan's commitment to global initiatives aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions, Bakytzhan emphasized the country's accession to the Global Methane Commitment as a testament to its dedication to sustainable practices.
The Ministry of Energy underscored Kazakhstan's overarching goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, signaling a proactive approach towards embracing renewable energy sources and fostering a sustainable energy landscape. The development of a low-carbon trajectory represents a pivotal aspect of Kazakhstan's energy sector strategy, paving the way for a phased transition towards cleaner, more resilient energy systems.
