Azerbaijan, Armenia agree to continue peace dialogue at UN meeting
During the UN General Assembly session in New York, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a bilateral meeting to discuss further steps in advancing the peace process between their countries.
According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the meeting took place on September 22, 2025.
The discussion focused on the outcomes of the peace summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025, and explored potential measures to advance the peace agenda. Following their talks, both ministers agreed to maintain an active dialogue.
The meeting follows significant diplomatic developments at the Washington summit, hosted by US President Donald Trump. During that summit, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration establishing a seven-point framework emphasising respect for sovereignty, recognition of territorial integrity, and the renunciation of force.
At the same summit, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialled a draft “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations” in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.
A central element of the framework is the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), widely known as the Zangezur Corridor. This transit route, which would run through southern Armenia, is designed to connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave and is considered strategically and economically important for the wider region.
