Azerbaijan backs Trump’s plan to end Gaza conflict
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed support for the comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict proposed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump.
In a statement posted on X, the ministry said, “We welcome the announcement of a Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict proposed by the U.S. President Donald J. Trump. A sustainable and just peace requires sincere commitment, mutual trust, and respect for international law.”
The ministry highlighted the importance of addressing immediate humanitarian needs and confidence-building measures.
“The exchange of prisoners and hostages, and addressing humanitarian needs of the population are vital to pave the way for long-term stabilisation and political settlement through building confidence and easing tensions,” the statement added.
It further underscored that a lasting resolution can only be achieved through dialogue.
“Only through dialogue and goodwill can a long-lasting settlement, with the two-state solution at its core, be achieved,” the ministry noted.
On September 29, President Trump unveiled a 20-point peace proposal for Gaza aimed at ending the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants, calling for the return of all hostages, both living and deceased, within 72 hours of a ceasefire.
The plan leaves numerous details to be resolved through negotiations and depends on the agreement of Hamas, which initiated hostilities against Israel on October 7, 2023.
It envisions a redeveloped Gaza, described in the proposal as “New Gaza.”
