Azerbaijan becomes European Union's key energy partner EU Energy Commissioner says
The European Union accepted 11 billion cubic metres of gas from Azerbaijan as a stable and secure supply in 2023, and European Union countries and candidate countries are interested in continuing to receive this gas.
EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson made the statement while addressing the 10th ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 2nd ministerial meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council, Azertag reports.
"We hope that natural gas from Azerbaijan will play an important role in the energy transition of the European energy system. As Russia becomes more aggressive and continues its unjustifiable war, it becomes clear that Europe cannot continue to do business with Russia in terms of energy. Now we see that we have other reliable energy partners, and Azerbaijan is one of them," the Commissioner stressed.
She went on to say that the European Union is committed to working with Azerbaijan for the long term: "Azerbaijan is working on the development of the Southern Gas Corridor. We will double gas trade by 2027 and, above all, the strategic energy cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan shows flexibility and dynamism".
