ACWA Power: Khizi-Absheron wind project marks start of strategic partnership in Azerbaijan
A new wind power project in the Khizi-Absheron region marks the beginning of long-term strategic cooperation between ACWA Power and Azerbaijan.
The initiative is the Saudi-based company’s first large-scale renewable energy venture in the country and is expected to play a key role in strengthening the nation’s energy security.
Speaking to local media, Abid Malik, ACWA Power’s President for Central Asia, said Azerbaijan is “not just an investment environment but an important partner,” highlighting the strong historical ties and mutual trust between the country and Saudi Arabia.
The Khizi-Absheron project will generate clean energy using advanced wind technologies, supporting Azerbaijan’s energy diversification and contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Malik noted that the initiative aligns with the country’s international climate commitments while creating tangible environmental and social benefits.
“The project also promotes local economic development and human capital. By involving local specialists, training young professionals, and engaging domestic suppliers and manufacturers, we are fostering sustainable socio-economic value,” he said.
ACWA Power plans to expand its collaboration in Azerbaijan with future initiatives in energy storage, water security, and additional renewable projects. The company describes the Khizi-Absheron wind farm as a significant step in Azerbaijan’s energy transition and a model of regional partnership.
