Azerbaijan closely monitoring developments in Syria, reaffirms support for territorial integrity Foreign Ministry says
Azerbaijan is closely monitoring the developments in Syria and is engaged in consultations with its brotherly ally, Türkiye, in this context, a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the Ministry emphasized the critical importance of restoring peace and stability in Syria and bringing an end to the ongoing civil conflict, Caliber.Az reports.
Azerbaijan reiterated its strong support for Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, stressing the need for a resolution of the country’s issues in line with the will of the Syrian people through political dialogue.
The statement further highlighted that Azerbaijan, in collaboration with Türkiye, and other like-minded nations, is prepared to contribute to alleviating the humanitarian crisis affecting the Syrian population.
While Azerbaijan does not currently have an embassy in Syria, the Ministry is working to determine the number and whereabouts of its citizens in the country. Efforts to facilitate the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Syria, in coordination with Türkiye, have been ongoing since 2020.
The Ministry expressed hope that once the situation in Syria stabilizes, bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Syria will be restored, fostering cooperation based on mutual friendship and partnership.
