Azerbaijan marks four years since the untimely death of General Polad Hashimov on July 14, a revered figure in Azerbaijan's military history, who tragically lost his life on July 14, 2020.
General Hashimov's heroic act occurred while defending Azerbaijan's Tovuz district from provocations by Armenian forces, Caliber.Az reports.
Born on January 2, 1975, in Vandam settlement of Gabala district, Hashimov moved with his family to Sumgayit city, where he completed his secondary education. His dedication to serving his country led him to graduate from the Heydar Aliyev Higher Military School, embarking on a distinguished career in the Azerbaijani army.
Throughout his military service, Hashimov earned several prestigious awards and recognitions for his valor and dedication. In 2003, he was awarded the medal "For Military Merit" by Azerbaijan's national leader, followed by the medal "For the Motherland" in 2009 under President Ilham Aliyev's decree. During the April battles of 2016, he demonstrated exceptional leadership as the chief of staff of the First Army Corps, earning the Order For Merit to the Fatherland, II degree.
Promoted to the rank of major general on June 25, 2015, Hashimov continued to excel in his military career, eventually serving as the chief of staff of the Third Army Corps. His final act of bravery came during the skirmishes in Tovuz, where he made the ultimate sacrifice for his country on July 14, 2020.
Following his death, General Hashimov was laid to rest in the Second Alley of Martyrs on July 15, 2020. President Aliyev personally conveyed his condolences to Hashimov's mother during a heartfelt phone call. In recognition of his extraordinary bravery and service, General Hashimov was posthumously honored with the title of National Hero on December 9, 2020, by presidential decree.
