Azerbaijan condemns Indian deadly airstrikes on Pakistani territory
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has issued a statement condemning India for its recent military attacks on Pakistan that claimed 26 lives and injured dozens.
“The Republic of Azerbaijan expresses its concern over the further escalation of tension between the Republic of India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. We condemn military attacks against the Islamic Republic of Pakistan that killed and injured several civilians," the Ministry's statement reads Caliber.Az reports.
The Foreign Ministry expressed solidarity with Pakistan, saying: “Being in solidarity with the people of Pakistan, we express condolences to the families of the innocent victims and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.”
The Ministry called on all parties to exercise restraint and to resolve the conflict through diplomatic means.
To recall, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply following a series of military exchanges on May 6–7, 2025, marking the most severe confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours in over two decades.
In the early hours of May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, a coordinated air campaign targeting sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The strikes, described by Indian officials as retaliation for a deadly attack on Hindu pilgrims in Indian-administered Kashmir in April, marked a significant escalation in hostilities.
According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, the Indian Air Force struck nine locations, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Sialkot. The targets, India claimed, were linked to militant groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The 23-minute operation involved Rafale fighter jets armed with SCALP and AASM Hammer precision-guided missiles.
Pakistan condemned the airstrikes as an “unprovoked and blatant act of war,” reporting at least 26 civilian casualties and 46 injuries, including women and children. Pakistani authorities stated that mosques and residential areas in Kotli, Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, and Muridke were among the sites hit.
In response, Pakistan claimed to have downed five Indian aircraft and launched retaliatory missile strikes on Indian-administered Kashmir, destroying an Indian brigade headquarters.
