Azerbaijan counters EU’s bias, prevents military aid to Armenia
Azerbaijan has successfully taken measures to curtail the military assistance provided to Armenia by the European Union, says a report by the Cabinet of Ministers on the government’s activities for 2024.
The document, which outlines Azerbaijan’s diplomatic efforts in the past year, highlights the tense relations between Azerbaijan and the EU, primarily resulting from what Azerbaijan views as unilateral and divisive actions by the EU, particularly those initiated by France, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
In response to the EU’s perceived bias, Azerbaijan implemented strategic actions aimed at neutralizing what it describes as a campaign of vilification. The government actively communicated with its international partners about the negative consequences of the EU’s support for Armenia's militarization, emphasizing its destabilizing impact on regional peace and the ongoing normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
As a result of these efforts, Azerbaijan achieved a notable reduction in the military aid sent to Armenia, particularly limiting the scope and scale of the assistance. The supply of lethal weapons and military equipment to Armenia has now been successfully blocked.
Furthermore, alongside the European Peace Facility (EPF) funding for Armenia, Azerbaijan has secured a commitment of €10 million to support humanitarian demining activities in the country, signaling a shift towards prioritizing peace and stability in the region.
