Azerbaijan marks anniversary of military police VIDEO
The Military Police Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence marked its anniversary on April 10, commemorating its establishment in 1992 by order of the defence minister.
In a statement, the ministry outlined the unit’s core responsibilities, including monitoring discipline within military units, ensuring adherence to rules of conduct by personnel, maintaining law and order in deployment areas, and overseeing the safe movement of military convoys, Caliber.Az reports.
Military police units operate around the clock at both stationary and mobile checkpoints across populated areas and along military transport routes. Their duties include conducting pass control and ensuring servicemen comply with daily routines during both service and combat duty.
The ministry emphasised the Military Police’s role during the 44-day war in 2020, as well as subsequent anti-terror operations. Personnel were involved in organising commandant services in territories liberated during the conflict, securing key infrastructure, and protecting strategic roads.
In both active combat and the post-conflict period, military police units were tasked with establishing commandant posts, organising patrol services, and securing strategic facilities as territories were liberated. They also handled the transfer of weapons and equipment abandoned by Armenian forces to relevant authorities.
Additionally, the ministry highlighted the use of specially trained dogs from a cynological centre operating under the Military Police Department. These dogs are deployed in mine detection, guard duties, and other operational tasks.
