Azerbaijan details Armenian provocations and mine threats at OIC meeting

30 August 2024 17:07

The 50th session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers took place in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on August 29-30.

Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

During his address, Mammadov expressed gratitude to Mauritania for its effective chairmanship and extended best wishes to Cameroon as the new chair country.

Mammadov provided a detailed account of the normalization process following the end of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, highlighting how Armenia’s provocations are obstructing progress and the ongoing mine threats in areas liberated from occupation.

He emphasized Azerbaijan's proactive efforts to establish peace and interstate relations, aiming to foster regional stability and full normalization and cooperation. Mammadov stressed that the conflict’s end in 2020 presented a pivotal chance for both Armenia and Azerbaijan to overcome long-standing enmity and build amicable relations.

Reiterating Azerbaijan’s commitment to the normalization process, Mammadov noted that Azerbaijan had initiated this dialogue with Armenia.

At the conclusion of the session, four resolutions proposed by Azerbaijan were adopted, addressing: "Elimination of the Consequences of Armenia's Aggression Against Azerbaijan," "Support for Economic and Social Development in Azerbaijan’s Liberated Territories," "Destruction and Desecration of Historical, Cultural, and Religious Monuments in Azerbaijan Due to Armenian Aggression," and "Solidarity with the Victims of the Khojaly Tragedy of 1992."
