Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a series of high-level meetings in New York on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, strengthening bilateral and multilateral partnerships across different regions, Caliber.Az reports.

Bayramov met with his Estonian counterpart, Margus Tsahkna, to discuss advancing Azerbaijan–Estonia relations through enhanced political dialogue, regular consultations, and reciprocal high-level visits. He also briefed the minister on Azerbaijan’s efforts to promote lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

“We discussed advancing Azerbaijan-Estonia relations through stronger political dialogue, regular consultations, and reciprocal high-level visits.I also informed my colleague on Azerbaijan’s efforts to promote lasting peace and stability in our region,” Bayramov wrote on his X social media page.

In a separate meeting with Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, the sides discussed strengthening political dialogue, boosting trade and tourism, and expanding cooperation within international organisations. The ministers signed an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports.

“We discussed ways to diversify bilateral relations. We also exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in multilateral fora and advancing common priorities in global peace, stability, and sustainable development,” Bayramov said.

Talks with Benin’s Foreign Minister Olushegun Adjadi Bakari focused on collaboration within the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as regional and global security issues. The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries.

“We discussed multilateral collaboration within the UN, OIC, as well as regional and international security matters. We underscored the importance of high-level political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation, and fostering people-to-people exchanges, which are vital for building long-lasting relations between our countries,” the Azerbaijani top diplomat wrote.

Bayramov also met with Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, with discussions centred on political consultations, tourism, and cooperation in multilateral fora. The ministers noted the positive impact of direct flights launched last year and signed an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports.

“At UNGA80, had a productive exchange with the Foreign Minister of the Maldives Abdulla Khaleel on broadening political consultations, boosting tourism through direct flights and advancing solidarity in multilateral organisations such as the UN, NAM and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation,” Bayramov said.

In addition, Bayramov held talks with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Mirjana Spoljaric. He underlined the importance of the ICRC’s efforts, particularly in clarifying the fate of Azerbaijan’s missing persons, and discussed opportunities for further cooperation.

“We discussed the current state of Azerbaijan–ICRC cooperation, focusing on regional developments, existing challenges, and future prospects,” the Azerbaijani top diplomat wrote.
