Azerbaijan hands over four Armenian citizens to Yerevan

14 January 2026 16:59

In line with a bilateral agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia and under principles of humanitarism, four Armenian citizens, who had been found guilty under various articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan and were serving sentences in the country, were transferred to Armenian authorities on January 14.

The individuals — Vagif Cherkezi Khachaturyan, Gevorg Rubenovich Sujyan, David Tigrani Davtyan, and Viken Abraham Euljekjian — were handed over at the Hakari Bridge, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on Facebook and local media confirmed, Caliber.Az reports.

According to Azerbaijani authorities, the transfer was carried out in accordance with the bilateral agreement and reflects one of the practical outcomes of the peace established between the two countries.

During their detention in Azerbaijan, the transferred individuals’ rights were fully ensured, and their health conditions and detention conditions met international standards. The convicts were also subjected to medical examinations prior to being sent to Armenia, which confirmed that their health conditions were normal.

Among them, Vagif Khachaturyan, whose health condition was not satisfactory, was provided with all necessary medical assistance and remained under constant medical supervision.

Regarding their health, the Armenian prime minister added that Gevorg Sujyan, David Davtyan, and Vigen Euljekjian have no health issues.

"Vagif Khachatryan’s health condition is initially assessed as satisfactory. They are being transferred to Yerevan," he wrote.
