Azerbaijan invites reps of 20 international organisations to observe parliamentary elections
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has revealed the list of international organisations invited to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 1.
Invitations have been extended to seven key organisations: the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the GUAM Organisation for Democracy and Economic Development, the Youth Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and the Organisation of Turkic States, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.
The Azerbaijani parliament has extended invitations to 13 international organisations to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections. The invited bodies include the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking Countries (TURKPA), the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Pan-African Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organisation, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Arab Parliament, the International Parliamentarians Congress, and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order on dissolving the sixth convocation parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan and setting snap parliamentary elections.
Under the presidential order, the sixth convocation parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall be dissolved and the snap parliamentary elections in the Azerbaijani parliament shall be scheduled for September 1, 2024.
Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov has said that to date, 480 local observers have been registered by CEC to monitor the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for September 1, 2024.
Some 344 of local observers were registered on their own initiative, while 10 of them represent non-governmental organisations, and 126 obtained special permission.
