Azerbaijan invites UNESCO chief to participate in major Baku events
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, has invited UNESCO’s newly elected Director-General, Khaled El-Enany, to participate in major international events scheduled in Baku. During a phone conversation, the officials discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, Azerbaijan’s role in multilateral diplomacy, and upcoming initiatives including the Baku Process and the World Urban Forum 2026.
Bayramov extended his congratulations to El-Enany on his election and wished him success in his tenure, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
During the discussion, both officials highlighted the strong cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO and expressed their commitment to further developing these relations. They emphasized Azerbaijan’s active role in multilateral diplomacy and its contribution to fostering intercultural dialogue. The conversation also covered Azerbaijan’s ongoing and planned initiatives in collaboration with UNESCO.
FM Bayramov underscored the importance of El-Enany’s efforts to reinforce trust in UNESCO and to prevent the politicization of its activities.
Bayramov briefed the UNESCO Director-General on several key initiatives, including the Baku Process, the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, and the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), scheduled to take place in Baku in 2026, formally inviting him to participate in these events.
Additionally, the minister provided detailed information on the historic meeting in Washington and the work being undertaken in the post-conflict period, highlighting Azerbaijan’s ongoing commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and regional stability.
