Azerbaijan, Iran discuss expanding air and transport links PHOTO
During an official visit to Tehran, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev met with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh to review the current state of bilateral cooperation and explore prospects for future development.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers, cited by local media, the discussions focused on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed after the last meeting of the State Commission on Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in the economic, trade, and humanitarian spheres. The parties also reviewed the progress of joint projects currently underway.
“Discussions were held on the current state of cooperation in the economic, transport, customs, border, oil, gas, trade, investment and humanitarian spheres and its further expansion,” the Cabinet statement said.
The meeting highlighted developments in transport infrastructure, including updates on the construction of the Aghband-Kelaleh bridge on the Araz corridor and the expansion of the Kelaleh-Julfa road.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the recent launch of direct flights connecting Baku with Tehran and Tabriz, and they exchanged views on increasing the number of flights and addressing existing challenges in transit transportation.
In addition, Mustafayev held a meeting with Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi, where discussions focused on the Hudafarin-Giz Galasi and Ordubad-Marazad projects, as well as on electricity exchange and the joint efficient development of water resources.
