Azerbaijan looks to Turkish success for Kalbajar thermal springs development
A delegation from Azerbaijan's State Tourism Agency recently visited Ankara and Afyonkarahisar, Türkiye, to examine the development and sustainability of Turkish tourist and recreational zones.
According to the Agency, this visit is part of the Action Plan derived from the 3rd meeting of the Joint Commission on Tourism between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation met with officials from Türkiye's General Directorate for Investments and Enterprises and the local authorities of Afyonkarahisar. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral tourism relations, sharing best practices, and exploring joint activities.
A key aspect of the visit was evaluating Afyonkarahisar's experience as Türkiye's thermal capital, with an eye toward applying similar models to Azerbaijan's Kalbajar district. The delegation explored the potential of utilizing thermal springs in Kalbajar for therapeutic and recreational purposes, aiming to boost the district's tourism sector.

Kalbajar is a real treasury of natural resources. The district is enriched with a number of valuable minerals, including gemstones, various minerals of industrial significance, sand, gravel mixture, munz-metal (commonly known as “Yellow Metal” which includes such valuable elements as zinc, iron and copper).
Kalbajar can also boast about its unique flora and fauna, as a host of rare trees, animals and birds inscribed in the Red Book have chosen the district as their dwelling place.
