Azerbaijan, New Zealand set sights on tax collaboration PHOTO
The Azerbaijani State Tax Service has announced that Azerbaijan and New Zealand are exploring new avenues for collaboration in the field of tax administration.
In a virtual meeting, Orkhan Nazarli, Head of the Azerbaijani State Tax Service and President of the Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations (IOTA), engaged in discussions with Peter Mersi, Commissioner and Chief Executive of New Zealand’s Inland Revenue Department, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani State Tax Service.
The meeting focused on sharing insights and experience regarding the challenges currently facing tax authorities, as well as potential reforms and innovations aimed at strengthening tax systems. Nazarli provided an overview of IOTA’s mandate, ongoing projects, and its role in fostering international cooperation among tax administrations.
Discussions also centered on future collaboration opportunities between the two countries, with an emphasis on utilising digital technologies to modernise tax processes. Both sides acknowledged the growing significance of digital transformation in ensuring more transparent, efficient, and accessible tax systems. Additionally, the parties underscored the importance of enhanced international information exchange and the adoption of global best practices in tax governance.
They emphasised that knowledge-sharing between tax administrations can play a vital role in combating tax evasion and improving compliance. This dialogue marks a step forward in strengthening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and New Zealand in public finance and tax policy. It also aligns with broader global efforts to create more interconnected and resilient tax systems through international cooperation.
