Azerbaijan reaffirms commitment to deepening ties with Kyrgyzstan
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov has expressed his nation’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Kyrgyzstan across multiple sectors.
In a congratulatory letter to Adylbek Kasymaliyev on his recent appointment as Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Asadov highlighted the strong foundation of bilateral ties between the two countries, rooted in shared history and spiritual values, press service of Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers told Caliber.Az.
Asadov voiced confidence in the continued development of the Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz strategic partnership, emphasizing the importance of enriching this relationship with new initiatives and joint projects. He underscored Azerbaijan’s commitment to active collaboration in all areas for the benefit of both nations’ people.
Recent developments demonstrate the strengthening ties between the two nations, particularly in the energy sector. In November, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev during COP29. The meeting resulted in the signing of a "Roadmap for Cooperation in the Field of Energy for 2024-2025" between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. This agreement outlines cooperation in oil and gas, renewable energy, and the formation of a joint working group.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation was signed between Kyrgyzstan’s state "Green Energy Fund" and Azerbaijan’s Renewable Energy Agency. These agreements aim to enhance sustainable energy development and resource sharing.
The defence ministries of both nations have also taken significant steps to boost cooperation. In October, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov met with Kyrgyz Defense Minister Lieutenant General Baktybek Bekbolotov during an official visit to Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting, marked by a formal welcoming ceremony with national anthems and a guard of honour, focused on strengthening military, technical, and educational collaboration. Discussions also touched upon regional security and other areas of mutual interest. The visit concluded with the signing of the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2025, further solidifying their defence partnership.
Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan share a deep-rooted history of friendship and cooperation, consistently strengthening their partnership through agreements and shared values. With recent advancements in energy and defence collaboration, the relationship continues to grow, promising further developments in the years ahead.
