Azerbaijan, Russia launch joint operations to strengthen border security
Azerbaijan and Russia have launched a series of joint operational-search and preventive measures under the code name "Border-Shield."
These operations, scheduled to take place from February 3 to 10, target several districts in Azerbaijan's northern border regions, including Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Shaki, Oghuz, and Gabala, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The operations are being carried out in accordance with a bilateral agreement between the Interior Ministries of Azerbaijan and Russia. Police posts have been strategically set up across the affected districts to monitor and secure key areas.
The main goal of the "Border-Shield" initiative is to strengthen border cooperation between the two nations. The operations aim to identify and dismantle transnational organized crime groups and terrorist organizations operating in the region. Authorities will also focus on detecting and preventing the flow of financial and material resources used for smuggling weapons, explosives, drugs, and other illegal substances.
In a statement, Azerbaijani authorities emphasized the importance of such coordinated efforts in enhancing regional security and curbing illegal activities that pose a threat to national and international peace.
The operations come at a critical time, reflecting the growing need for international cooperation in combating cross-border threats. Azerbaijani and Russian officials have expressed their commitment to continuing these efforts to ensure the safety and stability of both countries.
Authorities are urging citizens in the affected districts to cooperate with the security services and remain alert during the operations.
