Azerbaijan’s construction boom, cultural heritage impress international visitor
Large-scale infrastructure development and the preservation of cultural heritage in Karabakh are drawing increasing attention from international travellers, according to a German visitor who recently toured the region.
Jin Jaspersen Nageli, speaking to local media, highlighted Azerbaijan’s transformation over the past two decades, noting that this was her first visit to Karabakh, although she had previously travelled to the country in 2006.
“This is my first visit to Karabakh, but I have been to Azerbaijan before, in 2006. Over these 20 years, the country has changed significantly,” she said.
Nageli pointed to the rapid pace of construction across the country, including major infrastructure projects such as new roads and tunnels, as a defining feature of Azerbaijan’s development. At the same time, she emphasised the importance of cultural preservation in the Karabakh region, which she described as one of the most memorable aspects of her visit.
“Visiting the carpet museum and the ceramics museum was a real revelation for me. It was extremely interesting to see national costumes and learn about the cultural characteristics of the region,” she said.
Reflecting on her experience, Nageli said she hopes to return in the future to witness further changes and development.
“Azerbaijan is a country where something is constantly being built. I would like to come back here again after some time to see what else will be created here in the coming years,” she added.
