Azerbaijan's Speaker raises concerns over EU–Armenia agenda in talks with EU envoy
Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament), Sahiba Gafarova, has briefed EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mariana Kujundžić on aspects of the “Strategic Agenda for the EU–Armenia Partnership” document that raise concerns from the perspective of the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace process.
During talks in Baku, Gafarova touched upon anti-Azerbaijani resolutions in that document, which was adopted by the European Parliament, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Milli Majlis press service.
She stressed that the current regional realities and the progress achieved in the peace process between Baku and Yerevan once again demonstrate the biased nature of these documents.
Gafarova also briefed the diplomat on the current progress in the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace aspirations, including confidence-building measures between the two parliaments.
Then the parties exchanged views on issues related to relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics in contacts, mutual visits, and meetings throughout 2025. They also highlighted the importance of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s meetings with President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in discussing various aspects of the bilateral agenda.
Mariana Kujundžić congratulated Azerbaijan on its achievements on the path toward peace with Armenia, describing them as a historic development. She noted that progress in the peace process is significant not only for the region but also for the entire continent and the world as a whole.
