The Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev and the Saudi delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed al-Khereiji have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
On December 9, the third round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia was held in Riyadh, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
During the meeting, the sides also explored the current state and future prospects for cooperation in various areas, including politics, economics, energy, and humanitarian affairs.
The sides noted that the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku in November this year, has opened new opportunities for the development of bilateral relations.
The sides exchanged views on potential cooperation within the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and other international organisations, and agreed to continue mutual support.
Rafiyev provided a detailed update on the post-conflict situation in the region, Azerbaijan's efforts to establish lasting peace, the mine threat on the liberated territories, and ongoing reconstruction and restoration work in those areas. The meeting highlighted the broad potential for enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia in the fields of tourism, green energy, and investment.
During the political consultations, regional and international issues, as well as other topics of mutual interest, were discussed. As part of his visit, Rafiyev also met with Saudi Arabian Deputy Minister of Sustainability and Climate Change Khalid Almehaid.
