Azerbaijan set to complete Kalbajar-Lachin highway in two years
Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Turkish PROYAPI Engineering and Consultancy Inc. Akif Aygen has said that the Kalbajar-Lachin highway will be built in Azerbaijan within two years.
“The 75.8-kilometre-long Kalbajar-Lachin highway, including tunnels along this road, will be built by late 2025 or early 2026,” Aygen told Report.
PROYAPI deals with the construction work in the liberated territories.
The highway connecting Kalbajar and Lachin districts is being built in accordance with the first and second technical categories with two, three and four lanes.
The Kalbajar-Lachin highway begins from Gamishli village in the Kalbajar district and passes through the Lachin district. People will be able to easily travel to the settlements in these areas, as well as to the Lachin International Airport.
The foundation stone for the Lachin International Airport was laid in 2021, and the construction is scheduled for completion in 2025. The runway of the Airport will be 3,000 meters in length and 60 meters in width. The airport, which is being built near the village of Gorchu at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level, will be one of the highest airports in the post-Soviet space.
Designed in accordance with international standards, the airport terminal, which occupies an area of 5,000 square meters, will be able to serve 200 passengers per hour.
