Azerbaijan, Spain focus on expanding legislative cooperation and delegation contacts PHOTO
During the 11th Summit of Speakers of the G20 Parliaments in Cape Town, South Africa, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, met with Francisca Armengol, President of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain.
Parliament’s Press and Public Relations Department told domestic media that during the talks, Speaker Gafarova recalled her first official visit to Spain in May of this year and her meeting with President Armengol, emphasising that mutual visits and high-level meetings create significant opportunities for the development of bilateral relations.
She noted that her recent interactions contributed to the strengthening of ties between the countries and their legislative bodies.
The discussion highlighted the importance of further expanding cooperation between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Spain. Both sides agreed that enhanced contacts between parliamentary delegations could positively influence broader bilateral relations.
Speaker Gafarova also briefed President Armengol on the current situation in the region, the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the construction and restoration efforts underway in territories recently liberated from occupation.
President Armengol expressed her congratulations on the initialling of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, affirming Spain’s support for the steps being taken to ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest, further reinforcing the commitment of both countries to strengthen parliamentary and bilateral cooperation.
