Azerbaijan to integrate COP29 climate initiatives into major UN framework
Samad Bashirli, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Economy, has announced that the country plans to include the implementation of climate initiatives, as outlined at COP29, in its upcoming cooperation framework with the United Nations.
This framework, which will cover sustainable development from 2026 to 2030, is set to be signed between Azerbaijan and the UN, Caliber.Az reports.
Speaking at an event dedicated to discussing the strategic priorities of the document, Bashirli stated, "We intend to include in the framework the implementation of climate initiatives announced during COP29."
In addition to climate action, Azerbaijan's government is proposing to incorporate support for sustainable development projects aimed at the reintegration of liberated territories.
This will also encompass Azerbaijan's 18th Sustainable Development Goal, which focuses on humanitarian demining, a proposal officially endorsed by Baku.
Bashirli outlined other key priorities for Azerbaijan, including boosting economic diversification, encouraging exports, expanding innovation initiatives, and enhancing collaboration in the fields of the Sixth Industrial Revolution and digital economy.
"The Ministry of Economy has prepared a more detailed presentation on each of these directions," Bashirli added, highlighting the government's commitment to these strategic goals.
