Azerbaijan explores waste-to-fuel opportunities in Belarus
Azerbaijan is interested in Belarus’ experience in the production of refuse-derived fuel (RDF), a topic discussed during a visit by an Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov to key housing and utility infrastructure facilities in Belarus.
The Azerbaijani delegation was accompanied by Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Petkevich and First Deputy Housing and Utilities Minister Andrei Beketa, BelTA reports.
The visit began at the waste-processing plant located at the Trostenetsky landfill site in Minsk, where Azerbaijani officials were introduced to the operations of Belarus’ largest waste recycling complex. Particular attention was paid to the facility’s RDF fuel production process. The fuel is used as an alternative energy source at cement plants, and similar projects are planned in Azerbaijan.
The delegation also toured Boiler House No. 1 in Logoysk, the first pellet-fueled heating facility in Belarus with a capacity of 10 megawatts. Commissioned in 2025, the plant currently provides heating to approximately 70 percent of the town’s consumers.
During the visit, special emphasis was placed on the economic efficiency of the facility and the results achieved through the implementation of the project, as the Azerbaijani side explored practical solutions and technologies that could be adapted for use at home.
