Azerbaijan, Türkiye negotiate future gas exports from Absheron field
Negotiations are underway to begin gas exports to Türkiye from the Azerbajiani gas field Absheron starting in 2029, Prime Minister Ali Asadov has announced.
He made the statement during the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, APA reports.
Asadov highlighted that large-scale energy projects jointly implemented by Azerbaijan and Türkiye hold significant regional and global importance.
“The implementation of major projects such as the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan and Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum oil pipelines, as well as the TANAP/TAP projects, not only united our countries but also transformed the energy map of Eurasia. Today, Azerbaijani oil and gas, passing through Türkiye, ensure the energy security of many countries. Given the current geopolitical situation, increasing transit volumes through energy pipelines remains a pressing task on the agenda,” Asadov added.
Azerbaijan and Türkiye share a long-standing energy partnership, anchored by several major infrastructure projects. These include the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) Oil Pipeline, which transports Azerbaijani crude to the Mediterranean while bypassing Russia; the Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum Gas Pipeline, delivering natural gas from Azerbaijan to Türkiye; the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), extending Azerbaijani gas supplies across Türkiye to Europe; and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which links TANAP to European markets and strengthens energy diversification across the continent.
