Azerbaijan, UK dialogue focuses on regional peace, security, bilateral cooperation
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov engaged in a telephone conversation with Stephen Doughty, the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories, during which they deliberated on a range of critical international and regional security matters, alongside enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The sides exchanged views on key matters impacting the relationship between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, alongside broader regional concerns, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Bayramov provided Doughty with an update on the current situation in the South Caucasus, focusing on developments in the post-conflict period and the ongoing threats posed by landmines in the newly liberated territories.
In discussing Azerbaijan’s normalization efforts with Armenia, Bayramov highlighted the progress made in peace treaty negotiations, while also addressing the primary obstacles that remain in the path toward a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement. He specifically underscored the importance of Armenia renouncing territorial claims against Azerbaijan, a move that is crucial for achieving long-term stability in the region. Bayramov pointed out that such a step, if formalized through changes in Armenia’s Constitution and legal framework, would significantly contribute to securing lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
The phone talk also touched upon other issues of mutual interest to both nations, furthering the bilateral dialogue on regional and international security matters.
