Azerbaijan ups gas exports by 9%
Gas exports from Azerbaijan increased by 9 per cent in January-August, 2023, Energy Ministry Parviz Shahbazov said.
According to his post on X (former Twitter), 7.6 billion cubic metres of gas was exported to Europe, 6.7 billion cubic metres to Türkiye, and 1.5 billion cubic metres to Georgia, Caliber.Az reports.
During this period, TANAP supplied Türkiye with 3.8 billion cubic metres of gas, he wrote.
In a separate tweet, the energy ministry underlined that according to operational data in January-August, oil-condensate production was 20.3 million tons, and export was 17 million tons.
“During this period, 15.8 bcm out of the 32.2 bcm gas produced with an increase of 5 per cent was exported,” the tweet said.
Azerbaijan has been supplying natural gas to Europe through the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) since December 31, 2020. TAP is the final segment of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and spans 773 kilometres onshore and 105 kilometres offshore, starting at the Turkish-Greek border and reaching its final destination in Italy, traversing Greece and Albania.
The SGC consists of three segments, spanning seven countries and six regulatory systems. It links 11 different investors and supplies 12 different gas buyers, primarily in Europe. The initial annual transportation volume of the pipeline is 16 bcm, shared between Türkiye and Europe, with 6 bcm and 10 bcm, respectively. The main source of natural gas for the SGC is Azerbaijan’s offshore Shah Deniz field, which has an estimated 1.2 trillion cubic meters of proven reserves.
