Azerbaijan, US kick off first Strategic Partnership Charter meeting
The inaugural full-scale meeting of the Strategic Working Group tasked with developing the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United States of America was held online.
According to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, the session was co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov on the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sonata Coulter for the United States, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
During the meeting, participants discussed the current state of and future prospects for bilateral cooperation across a range of priority areas, including regional connectivity—covering energy, trade, and transit—economic investment, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, as well as defence, security, and counterterrorism. These areas were outlined as priorities under the Memorandum of Understanding to develop the Charter on Strategic Partnership, signed by both countries during the Washington Peace Summit on August 8. The bilateral contacts and discussions conducted in these sectors following the summit were highly commended.
An exchange of views was held on the draft text of the Charter, which is expected to define mutually beneficial directions for cooperation in these and other critical areas. The importance of finalizing the document within a short timeframe was also underscored.
The parties reached an agreement on the dates and agenda for the next meeting of the Strategic Working Group, signaling ongoing commitment to advancing the partnership.
