Azerbaijani border guards prevent drug smuggling from Iran PHOTO
Officers from the Horadiz border detachment of the State Border Service in the Azerbaijani southern district of Fizuli, have prevented the smuggling of 8 kg of drugs from neighbouring Iran.
As a result of operational and investigative measures, two border violators and one guide were detained by the border guards on the territory of the Goytepe and "Khudat" border detachments, the service’s official website reported on May 12.
This way, Algerian citizen Merrouche Ebdelouahab, born in 1997, who attempted to cross the state border from Azerbaijan in the direction of Russia, was detained in the service territory of the Khudat border detachment at around 0700 (local time) on May 9. Additionally, Azerbaijani citizen Ilham Mammadov, born in 1976, who guided the detained person, was identified and brought into the investigation.
Another Azerbaijani citizen Agil Shiraliyev, born in 1988, who attempted to cross the state border illegally from Iran to Azerbaijan, was detained in the service territory of the Goytepe border detachment at 0140 on May 10.
Furthermore, the service observed that an unknown person violated the state border from Iran in the direction of Azerbaijan in the service territory of the Horadiz border detachment at 0945 on May 11.
Despite the border guards' command to stop and warning shots being fired into the air, the border violator, who took advantage of the complexity of the terrain, fled back to the territory of Iran.
Operational-investigative measures are underway on the mentioned facts.
