Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister visits Syria Strengthening diplomatic ties amid reconstruction efforts

29 December 2024 23:38

A delegation led by Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, arrived in Syria for a pivotal visit aimed at fostering diplomatic relations and supporting Syria’s reconstruction efforts.

During his meeting with Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria's Transitional Government, Deputy Minister Rafiyev conveyed the Azerbaijani leadership’s congratulations to Syria on entering a new phase of stability and inclusive governance. Highlighting Azerbaijan's solidarity, he reaffirmed his country’s readiness to assist Syria in rebuilding infrastructure and restoring socio-economic stability, Caliber.Az reports via the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

Azerbaijan, together with Türkiye, stands with Syria during this transformative period, Rafiyev stated, emphasizing Azerbaijan's experience in reconstruction following the liberation of its territories. He noted that this expertise could significantly contribute to Syria's rebuilding process.

Minister Al-Shaibani lauded Azerbaijan’s territorial liberation, describing it as a landmark achievement for peace in the region and beyond. He congratulated the Azerbaijani leadership and people, calling President Ilham Aliyev a visionary leader. Drawing parallels between the Syrian people's empowerment and Azerbaijan’s historic victory, Al-Shaibani expressed optimism about Syria’s future under its new government.

The Syrian Foreign Minister outlined the challenges inherited from the previous regime, which had left the country in ruins and isolated internationally. He stressed the need for socio-economic progress and national unity, alongside efforts to re-establish Syria's global standing.

In a significant development, both parties agreed to reopen the Azerbaijani Embassy in Damascus after a 12-year hiatus, symbolizing the revival of ties between the two nations.

To cement this cooperation, Minister Al-Shaibani accepted an invitation to visit Azerbaijan, expressing his hope for regular engagement with Azerbaijani representatives.
