Azerbaijani FM, Lithuanian president discuss regional issues PHOTO
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov was received by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda as part of his official visit to Lithuania on May 8.
During the meeting, the sides discussed topical issues of cooperation, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
The bilateral meeting continued in an extended format with the participation of the president's chief foreign policy advisor Asta Skaisgiryte.
Bayramov noted the development of cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, trade, investment, energy, agricultural, educational, humanitarian spheres, as well as the development of cooperation within international organizations, and emphasised the important role of mutual visits and political dialogue in developing relations.
He noted the growing importance of the Caspian region, including the Middle Corridor, against the background of geopolitical changes. In this context, he expressed confidence that Azerbaijan's efforts to open up all transport and communication lines in the region, including the Zangazur corridor, would be effective in enhancing the Middle Corridor’s capacity.
The Azerbaijani minister informed the meeting participants in detail about the current regional situation in the post-conflict period, the extensive reconstruction work carried out by Azerbaijan in the liberated territories, the efforts aimed at promoting a peaceful agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the continuing mine threat.
According to him, cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania in combating the mine threat would make an important contribution to establishing peace and security in the region.
For its part, the Lithuanian side expressed its interest in using the existing potential to further develop relations with Azerbaijan.
It was noted with satisfaction that the EU Eastern Partnership programme plays an important role in the development of cooperation and that Azerbaijan acts as a reliable partner in the energy security sphere.
In addition, the Lithuanian side noted the importance of remaining committed to the normalisation process, stating that Lithuania supports efforts to establish peace in the region.
