Azerbaijani FM voices support for China’s global initiatives at UN session in New York PHOTO
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has expressed support for China’s global development, security, and civilization initiatives at a high-level meeting on the Global Development Initiative held as part of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
“Azerbaijan has supported China’s Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative. These initiatives promote peace, stability, and shared prosperity worldwide, aligning closely with our objectives and reflecting our commitment to confronting global challenges through a cooperative and inclusive approach,” Caliber.Az quotes Bayramov as saying on his X account.
Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan, as a reliable regional partner, makes intensive contributions to the maintenance of international and regional peace.
“Azerbaijan will continue to champion multilateralism, invest in connectivity, and stand ready to work with all partners under the GDI framework to create a fairer, greener, and more sustainable future for generations to come,” he added.
Furthermore, on the sidelines of the UN session, Bayramov also met in New York with Utah Senate President Stuart Adams, the leadership of the Stirling Foundation, and a high-level delegation from the state of Utah.
“Delighted to meet with the President of the Utah Senate J. Stuart Adams, the leadership of the Stirling Foundation and high-level delegates from the State of Utah. We are grateful to the Foundation and community of Utah for the long-lasting cooperation. Religious freedom, coexistence, and mutual respect remain central pillars of our identity and contribute directly to stability and peace in our wider region,” the Azerbaijani minister wrote in another post on X.
“The Stirling Foundation’s involvement in demining operations in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan saves lives, accelerates recovery, and symbolizes the strong cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Foundation and the State of Utah,” Bayramov added.
The High-Level Week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly is taking place in New York from September 22 to 30, 2025, bringing together heads of state, government leaders, and foreign ministers from around the world. Marking the 80th anniversary of the UN, this session is being held under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”
Issues on the agenda are sustainable development, climate action, global health, gender equality, and the protection of minorities, High-Level Week also serves as a major diplomatic platform for bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines of official events. Leaders use the occasion to advance their national interests, discuss regional issues, and strengthen international partnerships.
These gatherings provide an opportunity for states to assess progress on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, renew commitments to multilateral cooperation, and address pressing global challenges from conflict to climate change.
