Azerbaijani minister holds mettings on energy, oil cooperation in Vienna

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met in Vienna with United Arab Emirates (UAE) Energy and Industry Minister Suhail Mohammed Al-Mazroui, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani, as well as Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Secretary General Haisam Al-Qais.

The meeting with the UAE Energy and Industry Minister Suhail Mohammed Al-Mazroui discussed cooperation with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Masdar, TAQA companies in the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors, as well as in regulating the global oil market, Report informs.

Satisfaction was expressed with the partnership between the UAE and Azerbaijan in the field of "green energy". The sides considered the current situation with the implementation of the projects of the Garadagh hydropower plant of 230 MW to be commissioned soon, as well as "green energy" projects of 4 GW on land and at sea.

At a meeting with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani it was noted that the two countries are successfully cooperating in the OPEC+ format to stabilise the global oil market. They talked about SOCAR's deliveries of crude oil and oil products of Iraqi origin to the world market.

The importance of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Energy Ministry and the Oil Ministry of Iraq on cooperation in the oil and gas sector for the development of energy cooperation between the two countries was empahsised. It was noted that Iraq is interested in intensive oil and gas cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The talks with OPEC Secretary General Haisam Al-Qais also included steps to balance the global oil market, issues related to the development of the oil industry. Further, the need to create an atmosphere of dialogue and cooperation where all parties are involved in order to ensure energy security was noted.

Besides, Shahbazov, EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Total Energies Patrick Pouyanet discussed the implementation of the "Memorandum of Understanding between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) on a strategic partnership in the energy sector”.

During the meeting with EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson the sides exchanged views on opportunities for cooperation on the platform of energy dialogue presented by various market participants for energy security and successful implementation of the energy transition.

The sides reviewed the current situation regarding the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor and the construction of pipeline infrastructure in Europe and noted the importance of efforts to accelerate the processes.

At a meeting with Total Energies Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanet the issues related to the development of the "Absheron" gas condensate field, implementation of solar and wind projects with a total capacity of 500 MW were discussed.

The importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Total Energies in the implementation of "green energy" projects was emphasised. In this regard, it was noted that the implementation of 250 MW wind farms, 250 MW solar power plant in Nakhchivan and energy storage systems will promote cooperation in the field of "green energy".
