Azerbaijani multiculturalism expert slams growing Islamophobia in France
Baku International Centre for Multiculturalism (BICM) Executive Director Ravan Hasanov has said that there are many manifestations of Islamophobia in France.
He made the remarks at the international conference "Islamophobia as a specific form of racism and discrimination: new global and transnational challenges", according to Report.
Hasanov noted the importance of holding an international conference in Baku as it is a confirmation of Azerbaijan's multiculturalism.
"I believe that societies should fight Islamophobia. For example, in France, we see many manifestations of Islamophobia. I mentioned France knowingly. Because there are 5 million Muslims living in France. Followers of Islam are marginalized in some societies. That is one of the main reasons which lays the foundation of religious discrimination in societies.”
