Azerbaijani, Spanish top diplomats hold comprehensive talks on expanding cooperation
On October 8, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received Diego Martínez-Belio, Spain’s State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs, who is on an official visit to Baku.
As Caliber.Az has learned from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Spain. Both sides emphasised the importance of maintaining and deepening political dialogue, and exchanged views on expanding cooperation across multiple fields — including economy, energy, tourism, transport, humanitarian initiatives, and culture — as well as on key regional developments.
Minister Bayramov underlined that ties between Azerbaijan and Spain are founded on principles of friendship and mutual respect. He noted the importance of advancing political dialogue and cooperation within international organisations. In this regard, Bayramov highlighted the significance of meetings between the leaders of the two countries — held in Baku last November during preparations for COP29, and later in May this year in Tirana.
He also drew attention to the first session of the Azerbaijan–Spain Strategic Economic Dialogue, which took place in Baku in March 2025, describing it as a major step forward in strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
During the discussions, the two officials also reviewed relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, with a focus on energy security, “green” energy collaboration, and major transportation projects.
Minister Bayramov briefed Martínez-Belio in detail on the new realities that have emerged in the South Caucasus during the post-conflict period, the progress of the peace process, and the outcomes of the recent historic meeting in Washington. He also outlined Azerbaijan’s initiatives aimed at ensuring long-term stability and sustainable development in the region.
It should be noted that another round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Spain took place earlier the same day, further contributing to the dialogue between the two countries.
