Baku hosts presentation of Latvia's cultural heritage in Azerbaijan PHOTO
A presentation of Latvia's cultural heritage in Azerbaijan "Ornaments through cultures" dedicated to the 150th anniversary of textile artist Jūlijs Straume was held in Baku on May 21.
The event was attended by Speaker of the Latvian Saeima Daiga Mieriņa, Report informs.
The presentation featured the screening of a video about the life and work of Jūlijs Straume prepared by Fuad Akhundov, a researcher in the field of history and architecture of Baku.
Jūlijs Straume was a master of applied art. During his scientific expeditions to the mountain villages of the Caucasus, he paid special attention to ornaments on fabrics and the study of weaving traditions, as well as the preservation of local cultural heritage. In 1908-1911 Straume also taught drawing at the art school in Shusha.
