Baku to UN: Forced expulsions of Azerbaijanis from Armenia demand justice
Azerbaijan’s Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson), Sabina Aliyeva, has sent a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, asserting the right of Azerbaijanis deported from Armenia to return to their homes.
In her letter, Aliyeva described how Azerbaijanis were subjected to systematic deportations from what is now the territory of Armenia over various periods as a result of a policy of ethnic cleansing, Caliber.Az reports.
She emphasised the importance of international recognition of the right of forcibly displaced Azerbaijanis to return to their historical lands and called for this issue to be placed on the global agenda.
Aliyeva further urged support for the inclusion of this matter in relevant UN reports and documents, expressing confidence that such recognition would contribute to the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
