NATO representatives have arrived in Baku to participate in a scientific conference devoted to the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's accession to NATO's Partnership for Peace framework document, Head of Azerbaijan's representation in NATO Jafar Huseynzada said on X.
"Representatives from NATO are on a visit to Baku, Azerbaijan to participate at the Academic Conference on the 30th Anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Joining NATO’s Partnership for Peace Programme. Within the framework of this visit, the representatives from NATO headed by the NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Operations Burcu San, alongside the Head of the Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to NATO Jafar Huseynzada, held a meeting with Colonel Elchin Abdullayev, head of the department of International Military Cooperation of the Defence Ministry," Caliber.Az quotes Huseynzada as saying in the publication.
"During the discussions, Azerbaijan was noted as a reliable partner of NATO for its contributions to the NATO-led operations and to the energy security of the Allied nations. Within the scope of the meeting, issues related to Azerbaijan-NATO partnership, opportunities on future cooperation and other matters of mutual interest were discussed," he added.
It is important to note that Azerbaijan's commitment to security has been a cornerstone of its multi-vector foreign policy approach, where balance and collaboration are emphasized. Central to this strategy is Azerbaijan’s engagement with NATO, the world's largest military alliance.
The foundation of Azerbaijan's relationship with NATO was established on May 4, 1994, with the signing of the “Partnership for Peace” (PfP) framework document by national leader Heydar Aliyev. This milestone marked the beginning of a productive collaboration.
In 1997, Azerbaijan further solidified its commitment by joining the Planning and Review Process (PARP), an initiative under NATO’s PfP program. These steps underscored Azerbaijan’s aspirations for closer integration into Euro-Atlantic structures and highlighted its role as a proactive partner in addressing regional and global security challenges.
