Brig-Gen slams Trump’s empty, ineffective threats against Iran
Head of the Iranian Army's Strategic Studies Centre, Brig-Gen Ahmad Reza Pourdastan has said that US President Donald Trump's threats against Iran will have no practical impact.
“Trump's threats are unlikely to be carried out. The armed forces [of Iran] are at maximum readiness and are conducting necessary defensive measures by closely monitoring the enemy,” he said, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
He further explained that the US is currently in a state of decline, struggling with various challenges and even in conflict with its allies and neighbours, such as Canada.
Pourdastan also expressed doubts about the ability of the new US president to complete their term, suggesting that the US national debt is too large.
On February 16, US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz stated that President Trump is deadly serious about preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Waltz noted that all options are on the table when it comes to dealing with Tehran, including the possibility of negotiations with Iranian leadership.
On February 7, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared that talks with the US are impossible, citing past betrayal. He reminded that the US signed a nuclear deal in 2015 but failed to honour its commitments, refused to lift anti-Iranian sanctions, and unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018.
On February 10, Trump expressed his belief that the only way to stop Tehran from developing nuclear weapons is either through bombs or by signing an agreement. He added that he would prefer to strike a deal with the Islamic Republic without resorting to bombing.
