Today, Azerbaijan observes Remembrance Day, a national occasion dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives during the Second Karabakh War. This day was established in 2021 to commemorate the sacrifices made during the 44-day conflict in 2020.
The war, which began on September 27, 2020, was triggered when Armenian forces stationed in occupied Azerbaijani territories attacked both military positions and civilian areas. In response, Azerbaijani forces launched counter-offensive operations to defend their territory and safeguard civilians.
By the end of the conflict, Azerbaijani forces successfully liberated territories that had been under Armenian occupation for nearly 30 years.
