Bulgaria transfers Tehran embassy to Baku, citing mounting Middle East volatility
Bulgaria has announced the temporary relocation of its embassy operations from Tehran to Baku, citing escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The move was confirmed by Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, according to a Reuters report published on June 19.
“We are not closing the embassy [in Iran], but moving it to Baku until the danger has passed,” Zhelyazkov stated, emphasising that the decision is precautionary rather than permanent.
This relocation follows a similar move by Hungary. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also announced today that Budapest had temporarily transferred its diplomatic mission from Iran to Azerbaijan, reflecting growing concerns over regional instability following Israel’s recent military operation against Iran and subsequent retaliatory strikes.
