Caspian region’s geostrategic significance set to expand - Russian embassy in Baku
Given the geostrategic, political, transport, and economic potential of the Caspian region, its role as the most important link in the heart of Eurasia will continue to grow.
This statement was highlighted in a publication by the Russian embassy in Azerbaijan, dedicated to the International Day of the Caspian Sea, which is celebrated on August 12, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"The importance of the international transport corridor North-South, passing through all the countries of the Caspian Sea region, is also increasing. The progressive development of five-sided cooperation in the region in trade and economic, energy, transport, and other areas continues," the publication reads.
The Russian embassy also emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to the Caspian Sea's ecology: "This work needs to increase joint efforts of all littoral countries to preserve biodiversity, rational use of available resources, fight against pollution of the water body and its current shoaling, conduct necessary research, and take preventive measures."
"It is important to further preserve and deepen friendly, good-neighborly relations between the littoral states, strengthen the unity of the Five based on common approaches to various challenges and problems and contribute to turning the Caspian Sea into a zone of peace, good-neighborliness, friendship, and cooperation," the publication says.
