Congressman: Trump’s resolve to end Ukraine conflict is unwavering
Mike Waltz, US Congressman and future national security adviser to elected US President, has reaffirmed Trump's firm intention to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Waltz stressed that the former president is resolutely determined to achieve this goal, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"This conflict needs to end, and President Trump has made that very clear. He is committed to making it happen," Waltz stated in the interview.
To recall, president-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to broker peace in Ukraine faces significant obstacles as both Moscow and Kyiv seek battlefield gains to strengthen their negotiating positions. As Trump prepares to take office, the three-year-long war remains entrenched, with little sign of progress toward a resolution.
In the past year, Russian forces have made incremental advances through Ukrainian defences, aiming to solidify control over the four annexed regions in the east and south. These areas, which Moscow illegally seized early in the war, remain only partially under Russian control. In response, Russia has escalated its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s energy and infrastructure, intensifying the conflict.
Ukraine, in turn, has targeted Russian territory, including oil facilities in Russia’s Kursk region, while also expanding its incursions into the area. Despite these strategic moves, both sides have adopted intransigent negotiating stances, offering little hope for a quick resolution.
Trump, who initially promised to end the war within 24 hours, has since adjusted his timeline, suggesting peace could be achieved within six months. His nominee for envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, claims a deal could be brokered in 100 days.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has insisted that any peace agreement must reflect Russia’s territorial gains. Moscow has also demanded Ukraine renounce its NATO aspirations and fully withdraw from the annexed regions, conditions that Ukraine and the West have firmly rejected. The path to peace appears fraught with challenges, as both sides dig in their positions.
