D-8 confident in Azerbaijan’s contributions to enhancing co-op among member states in trade, energy, transport PHOTO
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation has expressed confidence in Azerbaijan’s significant contribution to strengthening cooperation among member states in key sectors such as trade, transport, energy, tourism, agriculture, and youth policy.
The statement was made in a post on social network X, summarizing the meeting between D-8 Secretary General Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, per Caliber.Az.
“Following the Meeting with H.E. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, the D-8 Secretary General, Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam met with H.E. Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, at an Iftar Dinner hosted by the Minister last night (4-Mar). The D8SG congratulated Azerbaijan as the ninth D-8 member, introduced the Organization’s activities, and highlighted key initiatives and achievements,” the statement read.
The secretary general underscored the importance of cooperation among D-8 members, stating, “The D-8 secretary general emphasized the importance of collaboration among the D-8 Member States in critical sectors such as trade, transportation, energy, tourism, agriculture, and youth, expressing confidence in Azerbaijan’s valuable contributions to these efforts.”
Foreign Minister Bayramov affirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to the organization, saying, “Azerbaijan is ready to host meetings and events related to the D-8’s focus areas and remains fully committed to active engagement in all D-8 initiatives.”
He also outlined key areas for immediate collaboration, noting, “Azerbaijan is prepared to contribute to the D-8’s work in achieving its objectives. We have identified several priority areas for cooperation, including energy, climate, transportation, youth, and media.”
The meeting marked the first official visit of the D-8 secretary general to Azerbaijan, which was described as “a promising start” to Azerbaijan’s engagement with the organization.
