Defence cooperation takes centre stage in Azerbaijan-Pakistan talks

Vugar Mustafayev, the Minister of Defence Industry of Azerbaijan and co-chairman of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission, held a productive meeting with Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, General Syed Asim Munir, in Islamabad.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 8th session of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defence Industry told Caliber.Az.

The two officials discussed the expansion and enhancement of bilateral relations between the two countries, focusing on areas of military cooperation.

The sides highlighted the successful efforts in strengthening military-technical ties and expressed their commitment to further developing these crucial partnerships.

The discussions centered on opportunities for deepening collaboration across various defence sectors, with a particular emphasis on the mutual benefits of continued cooperation between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

In addition, the Azerbaijani delegation, led by Vugar Mustafayev, was received by the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari. During the meeting, President Zardari praised the ongoing development of the friendly and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. He emphasized that the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission had made a significant contribution to advancing these ties.

Vugar Mustafayev provided an overview of the Commission's work, highlighting that the decisions and agreements reached during the discussions would serve to further strengthen and expand the partnership between the two nations.

The 8th session of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission has officially commenced in Islamabad, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The opening ceremony saw the participation of representatives from both sides.

On the first day of the session, discussions centered on expanding cooperation across a broad spectrum of sectors, including energy, transport, trade, economy, defence, information and communication technology (ICT), digital governance, banking, tourism, sports, youth affairs, culture, science and education, health, hydrometeorology, climate change, public service delivery, social innovation, agriculture, and food security.

Both sides made notable progress in finalizing key bilateral protocols.
