Deputy FM: Azerbaijan, Georgia to discuss border delimitation
Azerbaijani and Georgian Foreign Ministries will hold an informal discussion regarding the activities of the interstate commission on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border between the two countries.
The discussions will be held within the political consultations on June 19, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said, APA informs.
According to him, the consultations are mainly aimed to continue high-level relations between the two countries through dialogue.
"We will review the current state of the relationship at a high level. At the same time, we will evaluate our capabilities and joint capabilities in the context of current changes, challenges, and threats in the world. Of course, there are strategic relations connecting Georgia and Azerbaijan, and within the framework of these strategic relations, which areas need to be developed better and faster, will be considered. Of course, at the level of heads of state and government, there is a very close dialogue, there are contacts, there are friendly and reliable relations. At the level of the heads of state, there are high-level issues that must be resolved and continue - what works can we do in this direction, in which directions we need to strengthen coordination, we will discuss these issues as well. At the same time, we will exchange ideas on regional and international issues, because in these issues, Azerbaijan and Georgia have common goals, common interests, mutual activity potential and resources. How we can use them for the benefit of the people of both countries, all this will be discussed," he said.
Khalafov stressed that the main focus is to review the priority directions of Georgian-Azerbaijani relations and move them forward, at the same time to update certain issues and put forward certain proposals to the country's leadership regarding them.
Georgia recognised the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on November 18, 1992. The Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia has been operating since March 1996. The Georgian Embassy in Azerbaijan has been operating since February 1995.
Friendly and neighbourly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia have historical roots; they have always been at a high level.
“Agreement on strengthening friendship, cooperation and mutual security between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia”, dated March 8, 1996, which laid the foundation for a strategic partnership between the two countries, and “Joint Declaration between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia”, which was signed on the 4th of March 2004, are both important for the future development of constructive relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
