Dozens of drones shot down over Russia's Leningrad region
A large-scale drone attack targeted Russia’s Leningrad region early on March 31, leaving three civilians injured and causing damage to both infrastructure and residential areas, according to regional authorities.
Governor Alexander Drozdenko stated that a total of 38 unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed over the region by 6:00 a.m. Despite the interceptions, debris from the drones caused damage on the ground.
One of the affected sites was the port of Ust-Luga, a key logistics hub, where damage was reported following the attack.
In the settlement of Molodtsovo, located in the Kirovsky district, falling drone fragments shattered windows in three residential buildings, impacting up to 30 apartments. Additional damage was recorded at a local secondary school, where two classrooms were affected, as well as at a social protection centre that was undergoing major renovation work at the time of the incident.
Governor Drozdenko confirmed that three civilians required medical assistance, including two children. “Three residents required medical assistance, two of them children. There is no threat to their lives. The injured are receiving care at the hospital in Shlisselburg,” he said.
Emergency services also responded to secondary incidents caused by the attack. Fires that broke out near a group of garages and a boiler facility were successfully extinguished, preventing further damage.
Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
